I dont think so. You are reading from the same file, i.e. only one file
pointer, which will be pointing to the the subfile II record format when
you
try to do your update, so the error message is correct.

I posted this problem yesterday only but it got mixed up somewhere and
so I'm
posting it again.

As per RPG/400 Reference mannual, following should not happen. But it's
happening to me.

I have more that one subfile - say "Subfile I" and "Subfile II" in a
single
display file and I get  'Update without Read...'  error for "Subfile I"
when I
update "Subfile I" under following conditions:

...
(a) Read Subfile I
...
(b) Read Subfile II
...
(c) Update Subfile I --> Gives ERROR at this point.
...

There is no Update of Subfile II between (b) and (c).

Isn't this a RPG bug?
