I am glad to see that the initial discussion has generated some
interest in Code/400. I'll probably be taking another look at that
shortly. I just returned from the IBM AS/400 technical Conference
in Las Vegas and it looked pretty good. Last tech conf I went to,
it still only ran on OS/too and the computer locked up during the demo.

It does concern me that, even among people that use it alot they
say they only use it for 10% of their development because of the
overhead.

Should some of this discussion be moved to midrange-l, an existing
code/400 discussion somewhere else, or a new discussion on midrange.com?
Although the initial discussion generated a lot of interest.

I've heard some people say that it lacks many features of PDM, such
as option 25-F13 to search multiple members and the ilk.

I've heard that if you come from a SEU background you can turn on the
area to the left to act like SEU.

It amazes me that after being out here for years that it still does
not have prompting for CL commands. Perhaps it needs an online editing
mode.

You don't suppose they would not support CL commands in RPG because
Code/400 doesn't support command prompting?

I've noticed a definite lack of new commands lately. API's are okay,
but front ended with a command can be much more productive. Is this
because:
a: OUTPUT(*) - IBM wishes to force us to GUI
b: Commands are so elegant to use from a green screen versus a CALL
with a bunch of hexadecimal values (like starting Net server) that
they might slow you down from going GUI
        c: Code/400 doesn't support prompting for them
d: IBM developers are used to Code/400 and Op Nav and have forgetten
            what a command line is.
e: 5 or 6 even more bizarre conspiracy theories
