That is how we have been getting it done.  We use the output as input to a
query to format and print.  Quicker than coding a RPG for just printing.
Agreed not pretty, but quick for the programmers which have all the time in
world to create these simple reports.  Mode:(sarcasm)

You can build a query select string in your RPG and pass that to a CL which
inserts it in the OPNQRYF statement.  Doesn't make for very nice coding,
though.
Alternatively, you can pass parameters to the CL and use them to define
construction of the query select string in the CL.  This probably won't be
any
prettier.
