The converting to a physical file was a technique used to tranfer data to PC
files before FTP came into common usage. Since you can't download a SAVF
using PC Support, the file had to be converted to a PF before downloading.
Then the reverse is done for the upload.

Does anyone know if a v3r1 box can do binary FTP? I have en E45 that no
longer has an ethernet card in it. Can a dial up session to an ISP be set
up to do binary FTP? For some reason I seem to remember that this machine
could do FTP but not binary.

Thanks.
