Brian,

You can convert the program to ILE, where there are no file limits...or...you
can call out to another program to access one of the files normally accessed in
this program.

For example, if you're only using a file to check for data validation (like
taking the vendor number and chaining to the vendor master to make sure it's
valid ), you could simply pass the vendor number as a parm to a new program
which checks the vendor master. Then pass back a pass/fail flag to your
original program.

If you did this, you could eliminate the vendor master from the original program
and your file count will remain at 50 files. This is obviously the long way
around though. ILE is your best bet.

Hope this helps...Tim Knotts (Crowe, Chizek and Company LLP)

Subject: Maximum number of files

Hi,

We have an RPG program in which there are 50 files in it and we want to add
another for a total of 51. However, it will not compile because the
maximum number of files exceeds 50. How can we get around this?

Thanks,
