Buck, I had previously tried creating and using a virtual device - no
luck. May try your second suggestion.

The story is that there existed a program (creating a 900+ page
compile) which is already doing the job on invoice release in an
interactive environment. Because we use a separate program to do
shipment confirmation, all the invoice release program needs is the
information from the shipping (scale) system. I developed the
interface between the scale and an AS/400 file to be fed to the
invoice release program and just fed the IR program a parm that told
it to get shipment info from scale system file and to skip the lines
which output the screens which now are not needed (except when we need
to do some shipments interactively). Because of the complicated
processes in the IR program, I don't look forward to rewriting it for
a batch environment.

Regards
Bill
