Hans,

Now that indicators are becoming less and less needed in RPG, do
you envision a day when they become obsolete? The only indicators
that I really need anymore are for files (DSPF and PRTF) and LR. We
could be rid of LR by having an Op Code similar to Return that would
do it. Actually a special value in Factor 1 could do it. I would love to
see indicators for DSPFs and PRTFs go away. It would be nice to use
BIFs to control display attributes like underline, blink, reverse image,
colors, etc. I know that 5250 is not likely to change, but could there be
a new standard that behaved more like GUI? If the answer is "Not a
chance!", then why is this? Would it be too difficult? Or, IBM doesn't
want to provide a reason to continue with RPG when it wants Java to
succeed?

Joe Teff

p.s. I really like the new BIFs for file IO, etc.
