Overlay errors fail to create a display file only if you allow it to do so.

Let me restate my prior point regarding subfiles---


A subfile can look any way you want it to. Some records can have one field,
others can have 10; some can use one line of display real estate, others
can use three---All of this in *one* record format.

And, further:

The fields, provided they are conditioned, can overlay. They will generate
a severity 10 error, which is not significant enough to prevent compile.
