Booth Martin: although the file only has 51 needed records now
              it could have many more later on. so i wouldn't
                want to keep changing the size of an array.

Herb Henry: Yep this is exactly what I did !
                OVRDBF FILE(lfile) TOFILE(pfile)
                OPNQRYF FILE(lfile) QRYSLT(recselect) KEYFLD((key1) (key2))
                CALL PGM(rpg)
                DLTOVR FILE(lfile)
                CLOF FILE(lfile)

This ment that I could leave the RPG prog pointing at a LF and use
OVRDBF to point it to the PF i created.

funny thing was i came up with that solution 2 mins after i sent
the message :) oh well !
