It doesn't use a PC - it uses an iPhone or Tablet as the remote control. I am pretty certain that the Chromecast does the streaming all by itself.

Yes - too much weight - I carry a number of cables and adaptors already.

But the whole point was I purchased the device because it was advertised as perfect for travel. They now have all sorts of riders about hotels because of the number of people who complained I would guess. But they still say it is great for travel which is stupid.
