One implication is you should check for file system corruption so run a
CHKDSK /F. You might also use CCleaner or some other utility to clean temp
files & whatnot from the old XP install.

Also, did you check if a BIOS update was available?

Yeah, disk space is fine and it has 4GB.

I removed the Intel ProSet software and a couple of other programs and
it's gone further in the upgrade but it's stalled again. This time
there's no description on the screen to tell me which section it's on.
I'm going to let it sit for a while.

There is a diagerr.xml doc it feeds during the upgrade, but there's an
error with it, it says it has more than one top level element for the
style sheet so I can't view it in IE. Trying to read it in Notepad is
painful.
