The answer to your question is, no there is not a limit on how many
(certainly more than 50) contacts can be in a group. My first thought
is to be sure you are running a more current copy of Thunderbird, at
least 5.0, that's what I use. Thunderbird 6.0 does not support the
current version of Lightning, the calendar plug in.

If you are synchronizing your contacts with another source, such as
Google Mail, then the synchronization program may be the problem because
the update on the other end does not work. I have had that happen
several times.
