Where to start...

We used Panda for a few years, but had severe problems with its system requirements on our PCs. Many had to get memory upgrades in order to be up-to-par for the scans to not totally lock the system. Then, even on a decent system, I had the scan process often jump to 99% of my system during even just definitions updates. Not a fun experience.

Now we have VIPRE. It's okay...if you don't have a laptop...and don't use VPN...and don't run Microsoft Exchange. We bought their product because it seemed more cost-effective and looked like it had better management features. It does have a lot more features than Panda...but...we've been on the phone with them at least 3 days each week to correct each of the issues I mentioned above. For about three weeks our Exchange box would freeze hard after running anywhere from 3 minutes to 18 hours. You'd never know when to expect it, and the only cure was to shut it down hard and boot it again. The only solution was to remove VIPRE. Now, they had us run only the email scanning, but leave no live system protection on the server...

That's been our experience, and of course YMMV. If possible, get a live trial of the software in your own environment, and on hardware you select. Then, and only then, will you really know if it will be a good fit or your worst nightmare...

subject: [PCTECH] Business Antivirus Recommendations

In the next couple of weeks we are going to have the opportunity to
change our AV product, if we decide to do so. We currently are running
Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Exchange Protection.

We are satisfied with Symantec and have this opportunity only because of
a change to the business. Prior to Symantec we were running Trend Micro
and were not happy with it, so it's out of consideration.

We'll be on our own as to what we pick, so we need to consider
everything available. What have you found you liked and what have you
found you didn't like?

I do like the AV model where the software settings are maintained at a
main server rather than having each PC being it's own separate installation.
