Anyone know what one long beep from a PC with Phoenix bios means during power on?

All the documentation I can find shows that Phoenix bios reports POST errors with 4 beeps of some sort.

At this point, I'm assuming the machine is toast.

First thing that came to mind (after reading your final sentence) was the long "beep" that came from the telephone in 'Failsafe' at the end of the conversation with the U.S. Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. in Moscow...

If the long beep was the last thing that has happened so far, maybe the proper term is "burnt toast".
