"Is the Date Format CYYMMDD a valid format in your version of excel?"
How I can determine that?
Experiment with it I guess.
In my test of your example, I right clicked on cell A1 and went to the
Format Cells entry on the pop up menu (also available from the Insert menu
on the toolbar and also the ctrl I keys).
Then checking the "Category" under the Number tab for possibilities in Date
and Custom.
I entered a custom entry CYYMMDD then hit OK.
Then I type into the formatted cell A1 to date 14/12/2008 (Australian
format)
in the cell B1 I typed in a number 7
in the cell C1 I formatted the cell with the custom entry CYYMMDD and
created the formula =SUM(A1+B1)
My result was:
Cell A1 = c081214
Cell B1 = 7
Cell C1 = c081221
