I just bought a MyBook from Best Buy. I decided dropping the extra cash for
one with FireWire for recording audio straight to the drive. I know most PCs
don't come with FireWire (they should), but it might be something to think
about.
Back to reality, if he can hook it up to the school's PCs, one powered by
USB would be the best option. Get the biggest you are willing to buy. He can
then have more room for his music and videos. If it will remain in the dorm,
get something like the MyBook and bolt it to the desk. Otherwise, a 4GB usb
key might be all he needs.
