I don't see luck being a factor in my case.

I make regular image backups of my computers which take only a short time to
restore to a new HD in the case of disk failure.

I have also become quite adept at finding and fixing problems with Windows
applications (with the help of Google searches and/or
support.microsoft.com), thus avoiding the necessity to have to restore a
machine from a backup in the first place in order to fix a broken
application.
