I thought IPCop was just a firewall/proxy/filtering thingy. I wanted more

This touches on an issue that's regularly debated in various lists/forums, particularly security and pen-test forums -- Should you use all-in-one solutions or individual solutions for specific purposes?

There's a balance to be struck. It's difficult to create THE best firewall or THE best AV product or THE best whatever. An all-in-one is likely to have less than the best for each function that it does. OTOH, you have some assurance of interoperability/integration plus single-source for support (though probably not the best support for the function).

I.e., do you want better protection and support or do you want ease of use overall (with probably 'good enough' features and reliability)?
