Even better IMHO is one of the web based Sniping services. You don't have to 
even have your computer up and running, the service does it all for you from 
its own servers.

Also If I place a bid using these services and then change my mind I can remove 
it without dealing with the ebay bid retracting hassle.

I have used Phantombidder http://www.phantombidder.com for years and have never 
had an issue. Excellent service.

You should try JBidWatcher.  It's much easier to find and keep track of 
items on Ebay with it's search feature and it will put in your bid in the last 
few seconds of the auction automatically. I like to add a couple more
