A virus on a single PC vs. a virus on the network. How is this
different? Or are you changing the subject for this product to
something other than virus protection?

Anyway, with the wipe/reload, the following events would require a
thaw/refreeze if you wanted to maintain them:
- Windows events, which may be helpful diagnosing a problem.
- No browser history/cache.
- Personalizations - app config settings, personal dictionaries, changes
to default app & window placements, tweaks to the virtual memory system,
etc.
- Windows / Office updates & security patches
- Signature files for AV & other PC security products

On the plus side, I would imagine the refreshed machine would not need
defragging.

Anyway, I see little use for this in the SOHO arena or in the corporate
environment. Educationals, libraries, kiosks, etc. - anywhere where
public access is granted would be the likely candidates. For
corporations, establish an image file for that machine type & simply
restore the image if the machine gets corrupted. Major difference is
you only restore it as needed vs. on every boot.

For the SOHO market, Ghost it or make some other form of backup and be
done. Re-Ghost whenever a major change takes place or you just want a
backup. DVD-RW is good for this; decent capacity, OK speed, bootable
recovery media. Actually, your external USB drive can probably be used
as well since many modern PCs can boot off of the USB port.
