I'll third the trillian chorus.
I've been using it for a couple years, and it's lightweight and
multipurpose. It does ICQ, AIM, MSM, Yahoo Messenger, and several
other chat engines, all at once - even combining them into the same
interface, combining buddy lists etc. No Lotus Sametime support
though.
and you can't beat the price.
