Well the file is history - virus scan and everything else work fine.

Answer in the end was a wild-card delete after CD'ing into the directory.

Many thanks for all the suggestions - I have added a couple of other
valuable tools to my arsenal!

I just hope that one day I get to meet Billy boy in a dark alley ......
