Keeping kids away from the PC isn't a problem.  I anticipate wanting to do some 
editing but I don't want to start another career doing it.  

I think I would prefer to copy the images onto the PC so I can at least proof 
them before writing them to DVD.

This is a good solution if you are just doing a straight copying.  I can
also relate to wanting to keep other family members away from your PC.  If
you want to do any editing though you're probably out of luck.
