I would say it would be harder now then it was in the past, because I have to get a piece of software on your PC to call me (phone home). If I can get this program on the PC it does not matter how windows is configured since this program acts as a proxy on your PC. And the request will go through the VPN because the VPN thinks it is valid request coming from/to your PC then the program forwards it on to me.

I am still not trying to argue the security of this, just explaining how some things can happen.

Things change with computers and it might be easier to decrypt a VPN file (if I can get it off your PC) now with the speed of PC's, instead of try to hack a network while you are connected. I do not keep up with the preferred way to hack into a network that has VPN.

What if I'm connecting via a router/firewall at home?  That way, no one on
the outside can get to my PC, therefore the company is protected.
