James,
I had this problem and was able to stop it by shutting down the "Messenger"
on my home Windows XP professional. You go to Control Panel, Performance
and Maintenance then to Administrative Tools. Open Services and find the
"Messenger" service. Double click on the "Messenger", stop the service and
then change the startup type to Disabled. This Messenger is suppose to be
used by Administrators to send messages to users on the network.
