Re: Does S.M.A.R.T. actually work?

For me it seems to be touch and go.  Several of the Compaq computers I have
here at work have successfully reported imminent hard drive failure via
reboot at the bios as well as through a program that runs in Windows.  Other
times though they have gone without any warning.

My IBM xSeries servers seem to work (but they are SCSI) and have told me
that there are iregularities with a drive and to get it replaced.  They call
it a PF or a PFA or soemthing.  You give that code to IBM and it is good
enough to ship a new drive if you ar eunder warranty.
