Sending e-mail from Pocket PC device through Exchange

We just purchased a Pocket PC phone from Sprint for the boss to use
while he is in Naples, FL this winter to get his e-mail (tough life, I
know!).  Anyway, I have been able to receive the e-mail with the device,
but for some reason I am unable to send e-mail.  It is connecting to our
Exchange 2000 server through its wireless connection.  There just aren't
that many parameters for the settings on the device itself, but what I
have is correct.  I'm guessing it has to do with the settings in
Exchange???  Has anyone else had to deal with this issue?
