So, write a script that looks at the HMC to get a list of the partitions,
then use the SQL product services to find out what's installed on the
partition, next PTF services to see if the relevant PTFs are installed (of
course download and install them if they are not), then go ahead and update
the message file accordingly. That's got to be faster than going through 50
partitions manually.

And of course all the communications plumbing is already in place for all of
that too, right?

Correct it does not. It also turns out that running the program on the wrong
partition was the problem.... Having more than 50 that becomes easier than
it should, especially when the session name is wrong....

I guess my response would be "Duh?"

For the more inquisitive the IBM library QOPS would not exist, nor
would the message file.

Compile should be self-evident.

You do have to be *ALLOBJ to run the program.

I'll add and post as things change, and if IBM does not add the one
command to the installation/PTF programs. (hint to Kevin?)

As to digging in so we can discover the version etc, did not have
time to consider that yet.
