Then I guess I misread your criticisms...I feel much like you do.
I installed one of the first AS/400 systems in Dallas back in 1988, and I have always been
pissed off at IBM for their lack of marketing strategy for this platform, which I
originally attributed to their focus on mainframe sales in those days, and their fear that
AS/400 would cannibalize that market.
Today I just don't understand their lack of focus on this platform.
I personally believe that over the last 30 years that the IBM midrange systems
(particularly the System/38, AS/400, iSeries, and System i) represent the best business
computing platform that has ever existed, bar none, but those in power at IBM headquarters
still treats it like a step-child.
IMO, IBM should spin off the midrange division as a separate company, and let it realize
its full potential. It has been held back by those in power at IBM corporate.

You _always_ speak negatively of IBM and the System i - iSeries - AS/400.
Why do you keep participating in these mailing lists?
Because i work with the System i and think it's a very interesting
platform that has a lot of unrealized potential.
Because i don't see my position as an absolute truth, and like to read
arguments by the other side - helping me to refine my position.
I've been reading this list since i started on the System i. I learned
*a lot* by reading a lot of posts made by many very competent people
on this list.
But i still don't think that the System i is the perfect solution to
everything, ending all wars, giving bread to all people and curing
cancer and aids. There's still a lot to be done.
Many people ignore that, or compare a System i 515 to NT4 that they
worked with when i was still a little kid :)
