Branding our in-house software applications:

With all of the discussions about the name of our midrange system, and the confusion it causes, it occurs to me that we could do something to help ourselves, at least within our own organization.
Why do we insist on calling our in-house developed applications "the AS/400 System"? Why not create and promote our own brand name and image for our own package? At least within our own organization we would then have a well-defined and understood environment and not have to spend our time telling folks "No, its not an AS/400 anymore now we call it.... Hey, Sam, what do we call it this week?"

We can be creative; there is no need to name the software "Acme Mfg In-House Software on the AS/400." :) We could call it "Zongerrooney" or "Jon-Jon's John" or "The Smooth Trombone". But whatever else it is, it is ours.

Is it worth talking about?

The idea is Trevor's. I am just expanding it a tad.
