Last week I posted a message that our ISP was discontinuing all business
services as of 1/31/04. We ultimately selected Verizon as they already had
the DSL line.

Since we happen to have 2 single lines coming in (fax and a computer line)
they suggested we put the new DSL service on the computer line while the old
DSL was still on the fax line until everything was up and running. Good
idea.

The equipment arrived last week and I arranged for The Router Guy to do the
router config stuff at 9am today. When I came in at 7, we had no internet
access, though I had a few emails in my inbox. I thought, this is just
great. Brought the iSeries to a complete restricted state and back up, no
dice. Unplugged DSL modem and powered off for 2 minutes. No help. Called
Hypervine (the old ISP) and they could find nothing wrong at their end,
except they couldn't get to us, like the old DSL wasn't up anymore. Only
had to talk to 4 people at Hypervine to find this out. It's only taken 2
hours to get to this point.

Called Verizon. After talking to 4 people there, found out the old DSL was
discontinued as of today. Swell. So much for leaving it up until we knew
the new one was working. Verizon claims Hypervine told them to shut it
down. Hypervine says they did no such thing. Anybody want to place bets?

By this time The Router Guy was on site and by 10am everything was switched
over and working. Changed the MX record at register.com and as of now
everyone is receiving their emails.

Just another example of your friendly neighborhood phone company exhibiting
"customer service".
