Jim,
        On paper I agree with you, Compaq appears to be much more than just a PC
company. I mean, they did acquire DEC to fill out their high end as they
already had a product line that extended from the bottom to mid range
servers. But apparently the DEC side of the business hasn't been what they
had hoped.
        According to the acqusiition article, Compaq has decided not to pursue 
the
Alpha technology. I don't know what is going on there, but it seems that DEC
may be all but gone now. When DEC customers are looking for their next move,
do they really look to Compaq first?
        And if it is true that there is still a strong segment of DEC customers
within the Compaq fold, won't these people be further disillusioned by this
current merger? That itself doesn't sound promising for this new companies
prospects.
