I have a console that I need to hook backup to an as400. How does the

If a 3486 is built anything like a 3487 or a 3477, the top surface of the "logic element" and the bottom surface of the "display element" have four matching mounting lugs, and the front surface of the logic element has electrical connections that mate with matching connectors when it is properly mounted to the bottom of the display element.

Likewise, still assuming the 3486 is built the same as a 3477 or 3487, there are additional mounting lugs on the bottom of the logic element, that attach it to a stand.

The back side of the logic element has (again, if it's anything like a 3477 or 3487) a D-connector for an auto-terminator (a Y-shaped cable with two female Twinax sockets, each wired to act as a terminator if nothing is plugged into it), and possibly also a connector for a printer.

If your "monitor" doesn't have mounting lugs on the bottom for the logic element, and electrical connections that would mate with those on the front of a properly mounted logic element, then it's probably not the correct display element.
