CL compiler has been able to compile source up to 120 characters for a
while (e.g., if you create a source physical file of 132 characters,
all
120 characters of column SRCDTA are used )

IBM seems to have "hard-coded" the formatting of CL commands to wrap
characters beyond column 70 to the next line regardless of how wide
the
source file is, though. or at least I haven't figured out how to
control
where the wrap occurs

Thanks for the heads-up. I experimented with it and I was able
to
get IBM to wrap to the *RCDLEN of the source file. See Window /
Preferences / Remtoe Systems / Resmote Systems LPEX Editor / IBM i
Parsers
/ CL and change the automatic formatting line length to *RCDLEN. Save
and
restart RDi and you're all set.

Unfortunately, though IBM left the Line Length parameter
unprotected (at my RDi release level) when Automatic Formatting is turned
off, the value there is ignored unless Automatic Formatting is turned on
-- again, at my RDi release level. Unless the behavior of this setting
has been changed at later release levels, this sounds like a good RFE to
me.

I have gotten used to keeping Automatic indent and Automatic
formatting turned off because I don't like the IBM Parser to keep changing
my choice of line splits and line indents. Some commands are much easier
to read if I can split them and indent them as I see fit. But, for quick
formatting, I would still like to be able to press F4 immediately followed
by ENTER to give me a place to start. That place to start needs to
incorporate the source record length and not the default wrap at around
column 70.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
