Paul,

I've been reading this discussion. There have a lot of good answers. One
reason I haven't responded before now is that I don't really understand the
question.

I have a new app going live that we prefer to listen on port 443.

Do you want the app to listen? Or do you want the HTTP server to listen?

So my issue is that I will have two http apps listening on port 443.

Again, do you want apps listening? Or do you want HTTP server instances
listening?

Most of the answer given by others assume that you want HTTP servers to
listen "on ports", not apps. But you haven't made that clear.

Further adding to the question, you've suggested a requirement to "take
down" one URL or another. Are you aware that multiple HTTP server instances
can serve the same URLs?

Surely you're aware that HTTP servers can provide access to an unlimited
number of URLs.
