Can’t recall where I saw it - but in yesterday’s mail there was a chart of survey results on who is using what for new development. PHP and Java were in use for new apps in 25+% of the shops who responded. From talking to Zend’s Mike Pavlak and folks like Alan Seiden I would say the PHP figure is pretty accurate. Can’t speak to Java - but most of the Java shops I know use it on all of the multiple platforms they support - including mainframes - so it is a different audience. The PHP folk I know are small to medium shops.
