Rich,

If they have *NONE as the mail router in CHGSMTPA then they are delivering
email directly to the recipients. Some won't work because a lot of email
servers (the recipient's servers) use reverse dns checking. And in your
case that doesn't exist. That's why using a mail router is important.
It's a funnel through which all emails are delivered.

If they are using a mail router for their PCs, they can do the same for
their IBM i. Just update the Mail Router with the proper info and change
Firewall to *YES and restart SMTP.

If the mail router requires authentication and/or SSL then on V5R4 you'll
need something like MAILTOOL Plus that we offer. But, if it is an SSL
requirement an it's up to date, no doubt V5R4 won't support the new cyphers.

Contact me offline if you want more assistance. I'm happy to help try and
get them up and running.

I have a customer where some network changes were recently made. Prior
to
this they were sending out email from their IBM i using the i/OS SMTP
server without a problem (yes, I know it stinks, but it is what they
have). Now, some emails go out OK (like to gmail.com, etc) and some do
not.

For one of those that is failing, here are the entries in the SMTP
journal:

9T MSG SIZE 849
95 RIN TO SRVR 192.168.1.60
91 O [1]xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
92 R [2]<xxxx@xxxxxxxxx>
96 SRVR TO QTMSOUTQ
8B QTMSOUTQ TO CLNT
83 U [3]<xxxx@xxxxxxxxx>
86 CLNT(UNDELV) TO QTMSOUTQ
8B QTMSOUTQ TO CLNT

The email addresses have been changed, but I think you can get the idea.

I have the documentation from IBM on the journal codes, but it is
useless.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Going to a different SMTP server
is
not an option. The SMTP server is configured with *NONE as the mail
server. They are on V5R4.
