All valid points, and all true. BUT IBM Says "you'll only do this once' so they do not care. Nobody cares. Nobody even responds to my messages on this any more. It's messed up in Legal somewhere and we know IBM has lawyers. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

SO we do in fact download one time. Then use LICPGM option 40 to build our own install sets and go from there. Much as I hate this process it's not worth it to complain when I only have to go through it once every couple years or so.

The ESS download site seems to be a place where IBM could make some
simple but substantial improvements. An opportunity for personal growth.

1. With all the necessary LPP's in V7R1 we had to download 111 files or
so.
2. As Paul noted below the file types are inconsistent: You get a
variety of .bin, .udf, *zip, etc.
3. There is no FTP option like we have with Fix Central so you have to
use a PC to download via http or download director.
4. Just as well because you have to unzip some of the files anyway so
unless you are skilled at unzipping files on the ifs under PASE you
might as well use a PC.
5. But if you unzipped them into a working directory be sure you get
the files that aren't zipped like B_GROUP_04 and BGROUP_05 or you get to
redo the load of LPP's since you will be missing a bunch of LPP's like
some parts of WDS and TCP.
6. Another fun gotcha is that the length of the filename on the IFS is
too long to use ADDIMGCTLE or some hitch like that. Some filenames are
over 100 bytes long.

With all the good work IBM does how did this mess happen?

Jerry

Treat the .udf just like a .bin and the image catalog will be happy.

Larry,

First download came down as a .udf file

Is this correct?

B_GROUP1_01_IBM_i_RS_720-00_LCD8_2043_00.udf

I'm seeing inconsistencies.

Some are .udf
Some are .udf.zip
Some are iso.zip.

No FTP Option.
Select 'em all and use Download Director if you can. Best option.
If you can't use DD then yes yer stuck with one file at a time.

I finally got the ok to get V7R2 installed.
I'm on the ESS site.
Does each package have to be selected and downloaded individually
or is there a way to download everything?

or

Is there another option to download the .bin files directly to the
IFS via an FTP script?
