Or QWDRSBSD, which retrieves info for a single subsystem, including Status, which tells you if it's running or not. QWDRSBSD uses an API, but does not require a User Space.

Is there a way for a CL program to check whether a subsystem is up?

We have a situation in which we want a Tomcat server running in its own
subsystem, if available, but we can't guarantee that the subsystem is
actually up, and we don't want it stuck in an inactive job queue.
