Ah, hah! I missed it before. The above statement is not allowed
in dynamic SQL. You should code it as follows.

zSqlCmd = 'Values (Select count(*) from AXTRN01..UNITOFMEASURE +
where Symbol = ' + Q + %trim(pUOM) + Q +
') into ?;
