Use DSPPGM to display the program in question's information.

Does the program show these settings?

User profile . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *OWNER
Use adopted authority . . . . . . . . . . . . : *YES

User Profile - Help

The value specified for the USRPRF option on the command used to create the program. This parameter indicates whether the program runs under the current user's user profile (*USER), or under both the current user's and the owner's user profile (*OWNER).

Use adopted authority - Help

The value specified for the USEADPAUT option on the command used to change the program. This parameter specifies whether program adopted authority from previous call levels is used (*YES) or not used (*NO) when this program is running.

If user profile is *OWNER you are adopting the program owner's authority.

If use adopted authority is *YES you are adopting the authority used by the invoking program/command.

Subject: Adopted authority

Rather than hijack the current thread on authority adoption I'll start afresh...while we're on the topic does anyone know of a way to find out if the current program is working with adopted authority or would I have to walk the stack back?
