That's in the eye of the beholder. I shoot for pretty quick. Hey, if you
need to restore on new hardware which requires TR such and such you're
ready.
If you're only allowed to IPL once a quarter and the TR comes out a week
before that do you really want to put that off for months?
There are those who say never put them on. "If it ain't broke, don't fix
it" and will constantly redefine "broke" so they do not have to apply PTFs
or other updates.
It may vary depending on your shop's schedule of outages. How soon you
want the new features. How anxious you are to move off the platform and
therefore do not want to do anything new on it. And so on...
