We had similar "Jet engine" syndrom with our new P8 machine close to 2
years ago.

The problem was that after "take off" and the machine having reached
"cruising speed" it was still very noisy.

I called IBM and *to their credit* they:

first round, a CE replaced the fans (did not solve the program)

2nd round, (2 weeks passed) instructed by a CE. I've made some changes to
the Envirinment card settings using ASMI. (still not solved)

3rd round, (a month passed) a CE *updated firmware* and re-set some
paramerers in the A/M Env. Card.
(PROBLEM SOLVED - the machine is now purring like a kitten)
