I don't know about the 8s, but we have a 7, and until the OS or hyperwhatchamacallit are awake, the fans run at full throttle. They should settle down to a quieter roar once they realize that the system is NOT overheating!

Our V7000 and much of the other equipment in our computer room do the same thing if you have to reboot them.

Our E4A is noisy enough as it is. Power 8s are even noisier?

We had, at one time, a big Sun workstation around the office that sounded like a vacuum cleaner.
