We upgrade from image catalogs with the command
PWRDWNSYS *CNTRLD DELAY(120) RESTART(*YES *FULL) IPLSRC(*IMGCLG)
IMGCLG(V7) CONFIRM(*NO)

We did several on Power 6's and now several on Power 8's.
On Power 6's it averaged 78 minutes and took as long as 135 minutes.

On Power 8's:
SSD's: 18 to 22 minutes
Spinning disks: 29 to 36 minutes.
