I believe Mark is correct. If you have IBM Hardware maintenance this
enables MF PTFs that are for hardware issues.

Also remember you need a SEPARATE contract for firmware for Power8. On
Power7 and previous that was included in IBM Hardware Maintenance. We have
seen many customers with Power7 be unable to get firmware because they
switched to third party maintenance. While those providers are often very
good at what they do, they cannot magically obtain that firmware. This can
be a big problem.

Last I knew the third party providers were attempting to get some flavor
of contract with IBM to provide the firmware. You can guess that's one of
the reasons that Power8 breaks it out as a separate contract.

Rob,

From what I was lead to understand microcode PTF's are considered
hardware by IBM, so you should be able to get the MFxxxx PTF's with just
hardware maintenance.

So, in that scenario I provided, I would have to have software
maintenance
to get ptf MF12345 to fix the issue with the card showing up on WRKPRB
and/or Service Action Log?
