I answered your other post on this question in more detail, but to follow up
on Larry's comment; your business partner should have alerted you to all of
this in the first place. This is a reasonably basic requirement and the BP
should have provided a plan for it. Larry does, I do, I know several other
partners on this list would too.

I think it was in bold face in the materials I read when POWER 8 came out.

Another potential gotcha: Version 8 of the HMC code requires specific
levels of hardware too, (read bigger/faster) to handle to extra load put on
it by the new software. Be sure to read the instructions on the HMC code
level you're putting up to be sure the hardware you have is supported.

Now is the time to consider the Virtual HMC if you have a VMWare
environment. It's cheaper and can be made to run very well. Then you could
use that to run your POWER 8 and POWER 7 while the old HMC runs the POWER 5.
When the POWER 5 goes away, you'll have a very nice dual HMC set up.

More than 'Appears' it's stated everywhere that Power8 machines require HMC
version 8. AND current Power8 firmware requires HMC 8.8.4.0 or newer.

Also as you stated HMC Version 8 does NOT support Power5 servers. So you
will need to maintain two HMCs in that situation or convert the Power5 to
LAN console and HMCfree for it's duration.

It appears that HMC V7 does not support power 8. If I upgrade the HMC to
V8, it will not support my Power 5. I will be retiring the P5 in a couple
of months. This P8 is to replace the P5 in a remote site. Then I will be
replacing the P5 in the local site. But for now I need an HMC that will
support a P5, P7, and P8.

Any suggestions?

should be admin/admin, too.
If the vendor did a FSP reset, HMC should ask to update password, so
you can set one for user HMC.
