Re: IBMDA400 w/packed decimal data

We have Excel sheets using VBA SQLs via IBMDA400 to extract data from files
with packed data and don't have any issues. We are using various versions
of IBM i Access for Windows and IBM i Access Client Solution - Application
Package. We don't have any issues with extractions of packed or zoned
fields.

It might have something to do with CCSID. Do you have files with a CCSID of
65535? You might need to add the ForceTranslate=0 to your connection string.

The PTFs may not have affected the code on your PC, unless the IBM i
Access
for Windows (not IBM i Access Client) was updated from the PTFs.

I don't know if you have the full version of IBM i Access for Windows
installed, or just the database drivers, which IBM released separately (as
"IBM i Access Client Solutions - Windows Application Package", an add-on
to
IBM i Access Client

If you have IBM i Access for Windows installed (perhaps you had this on
your
PC before you installed IBM i Access Client), try this: go to Start menu,
look for "IBM i Access for Windows" (or "System i Access for Windows", or
"iSeries Access for Windows"). Within that program group, look for the
"Properties" program (title something like "IBM i Access for Windows
Properties"). On the General tab of that program, it will show what
Version/Release/Mod of the package is installed on your PC, and most
importantly, the Service level (something like SI42423, whatever).

You need to check your VRM number and service level against what is
available on the IBM downloads page for service packs:

I feel that I am current with all software & ptf's.
When I take the option in Windows to create a new data source to bring the
data directly into Excel, and use the IBMDA400 driver, it will drop my
packed decimal every time. I can convert my packed decimal data to a text
field in an sql select statement, but then that gets ugly in Excel.
