I am uncertain how best to answer.
DNS is not running on our IBM i.

->Can you be more specific? We have 2 DNS Servers on our network neither of which is the IBM i. We have both DNS addresses specified on our TCP domain configuration.
"How fast is your DNS?"
->Not sure how to determine this.
"Have you tried disabling DNS?"
-> No, DNS is not running on the IBM i
"Have you tried to increase buffer size to 1 MB?"
-> I have not, I suppose I could give this a shot. Currently at 65536.

TCP receive buffer size . . . . 65536
TCP send buffer size . . . . . . 65536

I, too, thought that netserver might be the issue.
Since we also have sluggish response with HTTP interfaces as well (with iNav and HTTP Admin), I was wondering if there wasn't a configuration issue that might be limiting data throughput.

I think it has something to do with netserver... I've had this problem since
V5R4 and it's still there on V7R3. Better, but not great (more likely due to newer faster hardware).
Sometimes I can right click on a file and open it (with something like
notepad++), other times it takes a few seconds before the open with
notepad++prompt
appears.
When deleting one file, it seems to take forever, but when deleting more than one, it seems to go quicker.
When editing an IFS file, "save as" seems to take 10 seconds or so before giving a dialogue to save the file... but "save" seems to be instantaneous.
I hope these are along the same lines as the problem you're having.. I've just put up with it for now... I hope to hear an answer as well.
