I feel your pain on this Larry.

I am presuming that the 7.1 is a new box/partition? In the late '90s I was
still pretty new to the AS/400 world (yes that is what it was then) and I
was the lone AS/400 guy. We had to do a CISC to RISC migration for Y2K. I
was new enough I didn't know most people were hiring this out, so I took it
on myself. Since I had both boxes sitting there: 1) Made a full back up of
the brand new system that I could restore back to at any time. 2) I
practiced several times making notes and tweaking my process as I learned.
After each test I restored back to that initial point (tape in item 1).
My point being that if these are separate environments, and you have the
time you can make some preparations and try it. See what you learn.

On a side note: I hear some say that it is too costly to stay current with
technology. But looking at this situation, what is cost to not stay current?
(just a general thought not aimed at anyone specific).
